Richard Bruce
Tideswell
Sep 12, 1935 — Jul 23, 2026
Richard Tideswell, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on September 12, 1935, in Buffalo, New York, Richard was the son of Harry Tideswell and Ruth Tideswell. He graduated from the University of Buffalo and went on to enjoy a distinguished career as a chemist. Richard also proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Outside of his professional achievements, Richard embraced life with enthusiasm and passion. A dedicated sports fan, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer for the Washington Commanders and enjoyed following athletics of all kinds. He was an accomplished softball pitcher and an avid bowler, always appreciating the camaraderie and competition that sports provided. He also enjoyed spending time on the golf course, sharing rounds with friends and family.
To those who knew him best, however, Richard's greatest joy was found at home. Affectionately known as "Fuzzy," he took tremendous pride in caring for his yard and garden. His garden reflected much of who he was: patient, thoughtful, hardworking, and quietly devoted to the things he loved.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Tideswell and Ruth Tideswell; his brother, Harry Tideswell; and his sister, Norma Connelly.
Above all else, Richard was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. Family was the center of his world, and he treasured every moment spent with those he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Gale Tideswell; his daughters, Susan Tideswell and Terri Kubic and her husband, Scott Kubic; and his four cherished grandchildren, Ryan Newell, Sydney Newell, Reagan Kubic, and Brady Kubic. Each brought him immeasurable pride, joy, and happiness.
Though our hearts are heavy with his loss, we are grateful for the many years, memories, and lessons he shared with us. His kindness, steady presence, unwavering love, and quiet strength will continue to inspire all who knew him. Richard's legacy lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been Richard's 91st birthday, September 12, 2026. Additional service details will be announced in the coming weeks.
Richard will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.
