Robert Snead Sr.

August 31, 1945 — June 3, 2025

Powhatan

Robert Lee Snead, Sr. 79, of Powhatan, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, surrounded by his family. Bob was predeceased by his mother, Blanche, his father, Stanley, his two brothers, Warren Snead and Douglas Snead and his sister, Judith Shackelford.

A steadfast father, loyal friend, and extremely talented mechanic and handyman, Bob spent a lifetime helping others—always ready with a tool in hand and a lecture primed for your enjoyment…

In his younger years, he was a big fan of the demolition derby and racing cars at Southside Speedway and could be found tinkering on cars at any given moment. He did it so well that he opened and ran his own Auto Body Shop in the late 70s/early 80s until he retired in 1997.

Once he moved out to Powhatan, he developed a deep fondness for gardening and raising his chickens and honeybees.

Known throughout the community for his knack for fixing just about anything, Bob was happiest when repairing small engines and tractors, and lending his skills and critique to family, neighbors and friends. His willingness to help, and deep-rooted work ethic left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Robert Snead, Jr. (Susanne) and his daughter, Sheri Lynn Shackelford, who will carry forward his spirit, dedication and quiet strength.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 10:00am at Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newby’s Bridge Road, Chesterfield, Virginia, 23832. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of service in Bob’s memory – helping a neighbor, fixing something broken, or simply being there for someone else. That’s what Bob would have done.
